Fun and Safe Outdoor Activities for Spring/Summer 2021

Spring is in full swing and Summer is around the corner, for many of us, we have our thoughts set on the great outdoors. Spending time outdoors can really benefit us, mentally and physically. In these challenging times, we are wanting to share some fun and safe ideas, for everyone to enjoy!

1. Some of our readers have the pleasure of living near some amazing beaches. A wonderful outing for you would be to comb the beaches for treasure! Having spent many hours on PEI’s beaches ourselves, we have found a lot of sea glass, pottery and other treasures. Our large collection has been turned into crafts, jewelry and set up in clear vases as decorations. Don’t forget the sunscreen and a bag for your collection!

2. An activity that seems to be quite popular, is hiking! We are fortunate to live in beautiful country filled with all sorts of hiking trails, for all levels of expertise. With a quick online search, friend referral or downloading the free All Trails App, you can find what trails are local to you. We especially love trails that lead to a lake, waterfall or beautiful lookout! Pack a lunch and make the day out of it or perhaps check out a few shorter trails in one outing. We would suggest packing some bug spray, sunscreen, water and if you are out in bear country, bear spray.

3. Another activity that seems to be quite popular over the past few years, is geocaching. Surprisingly, this activity has been around for over 20 years! It started with less than 100 geocaches and now into millions of locations, worldwide. You start by downloading the free Geocaching App and do a search of the area of interest. Geocaches are containers that people have hidden with little treasures inside. They come in different levels of difficulty, size and most come with little logbooks to sign, once you find it. You can also comment on the app, to help other geocachers. I would suggest bringing your own pen to sign the logbooks, small trinkets to trade or leave in the container and sanitizer.

Those ideas are a few of the many activities that can be done outdoors! We challenge you to schedule some time (perhaps in your Paper Harbour Undated Planner) and have some outdoor fun— maybe even try something new!
